Notable imperial laws

  • Inheritance law - Primogeniture (right of firstborn son to inherit his parent's estate or wealth) does not exist in the culture. In Sgili, however, direct patrilineal (male-line) is still favored for title and property succession.

  • it follows elective succession of title, estate, or wealth of a highborn male to "any preference of the individual's legitimate sons, brothers/nephews, or cousins."

  • Marriage law - Polygyny (male with multiple spouses) is predominant in highborn society. Divorce is unheard of in Sgili culture.

  • Tsian law - "If an Sgili citizen is killed, the guilty person is indebted to pay restitution equating to the citizen's social standing to the victim's family unit. If the Tsian debt is paid by the slayer or his family to the victim's kindred, it frees the culprit of any further punishment or obligation to prevent blood feud. If the Tsian debt is not paid, justice demands the death of the slayer."
